VISION STATEMENT

For the glory of God

We are a community of Christians united in a common purpose:

To know Christ and to make him known

By God’s grace we will seek to achieve this through a commitment to:

  • Teaching, preaching, studying and applying the Bible;
  • Worship and prayer;
  • Devoted care and support of each other; and
  • Reaching out in love to others in our villages and beyond

Who are we?

We are a group of people who come together to worship God and serve one another in love.  We are diverse in age, background and interests, but are united in our common faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

One goal

We were created for the purpose of bringing glory to God, and this therefore is our ultimate goal in everything we do together.

Two objectives

We want to know Christ - not just know about him, but know him through having a personal relationship with him. Our desire is for this relationship to grow and deepen.

We believe that the Bible makes it clear that it is only by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ that we can be saved. As John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  We therefore long to make the good news about Jesus Christ known to everyone, starting with our friends, family, neighbours and wider communities.

To know Christ and to make him known are our two objectives in all the activities that we undertake  together.  Acknowledging our weakness and dependence on God’s grace we seek to achieve these in the following ways (“Four Priorities”).

Four priorities

  • Teaching

We believe that the Bible is God’s word and is our supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. We are therefore committed to the careful teaching, expository preaching, and studying of the Bible both personally and collectively.  With the help of God’s Spirit we want to apply God’s word to every area of our lives so that we might become more like Christ.

  • Worship and Prayer

The apostle Paul encourages the early church, “in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship” (Romans 12:1) and to “sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16).  We worship God when we respond to him in love and adoration but in this document the meaning and  application of worship is mainly confined to music and liturgy.

  “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18). We place an importance on prayer, both corporate and individual, in obedience to the Scriptures and in order that we might experience the blessing and power of God at work in and through us.

  • Devoted care and support of each other

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:10-11). In response to God’s abundant and selfless love for us, so we want to be devoted in our loving care and support of each other, both practically and in helping each other to grow in our knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus.

  • Reaching out in love to others in our villages and beyond

In response to all that Christ has done for us we are committed to reaching out in love to others in our villages and beyond. With gentleness and respect we want to take opportunities to share the good news of the gospel with those who do not yet know Christ, and to live such good lives amongst them that we might “in every way make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive” (Titus 2:10). We also want to  practically demonstrate our commitment to worldwide mission and in sharing in God’s concern for those who are poor, oppressed or otherwise in particular need.
