Missionary organisations and Charities supported by St Mary's Church, Whimple St Petrock’s
The specific aims of St Petrocks include enabling clients to reduce drug / alcohol use, to enable them to manage their physical / mental health and to enable clients to access housing and successfully maintain a tenancy. The strategies used in helping these people to rebuild their lives and achieve independence include life skills training, improving literacy and numeracy skills, provision of work, schools and young people outreach and support for those who have obtained accommodation. In a recent letter of thanks from St Petrock’s in relation to our annual giving they report that in 2006/07 they worked with over 721 clients, helping 209 people find accommodation, 57 find employment education or volunteering, training over 40 learners in literacy and numeracy, and resettling 545 prisoners. They also provided survival services for 9.500 client visits including food, clothing, showers and laundry. A critical need of St Petrock's currently is to find more funding so that the work can continue. As a church we give £200 annually, but if you would also like to give personally to the work please contact St Petrock's (details below). Volunteers are also a vital part of the work at St Petrock's. Opportunities include providing companionship and support for the Centre users, offering practical help with preparing and serving food and helping with laundry. Help is also needed in supporting educational activities and meaningful occupation sessions. For further information see St Petrock's website: http://www.stpetrocks.org.uk
